 Update 12-10-2007 Minimize

Hi all,

I wanted to drop everyone a note and give you some updates:

All of our introductions to the Burmese have been done.   We are still
in need of some primary families and secondary families.   Please have
anyone interested in helping to contact me.  I will be glad to have
another "live" training session or the one that we did is posted on the
www.liveitout.net website.

SUNDAY NIGHT -  This coming Sunday, if your not going to the Toby Mac
concert,  why not take your Burmese family to the Christmas play at
Christ Wesleyan in Greensboro.   Sherri Jennings and another family are
taking there adopted families to the program at 6:00pm.   She welcomes
anyone else that would like to go.

Recently, many of you have received emails or phone calls from World
Relief asking you to fill out an application or to get a background
check.  I spoke with the director at World Relief, Mark Kadel and he
said that there was some communication problem there.   You do NOT have
to fill out any paperwork to volunteer to work with these folks.   Since
you are working through the church it is unnecessary.   Sorry for the
confusion.  I know what they are trying to do.   They just do not want
anyone to take advantage of these folks.   We realize that you did not
sign on to take full responsibility for these families for an indefinite
period.  World Relief is a great organization and does have other
opportunities if you would like to volunteer.  One program that they are
trying get implemented is a program where American women would volunteer
to take the refugee women to there prenatal visits.  If you have any
questions about the email you received from World Relief, feel free to
contact me.

We have a couple of families that are expecting children in the Feb-Mar
time frame.   We are looking for some nice cribs, pack-n-plays, or
bassinets.  Contact
Mike Limpach if you know where we can get some.
Start thinking about collecting diapers too.

We have need of a Guitar.  Nyien would like to use the guitar to
practice songs with the Burmese families.  We all enjoyed hearing them
sing the Carols on Sunday.  He was going to purchase one at WalMart, but
I thought we might be able to come up with one.

John McMurphy put together a really neat flyer that he handed out this
week.  It had pictures of some of the Refugees and a little bio
information about them.   This is an excellent way for us to get to know
these peoples names.  If you have a digital camera,  take pictures of
your family and send them to John M or myself and we will try to do the
same for your family.   Take a picture of your family so we can put it
on the sheet as well.

Ed & Carolyn's family requested blankets this week.   They didn't have
any at all.   Check your families to see if they need blankets this season!

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me.    Check out
the yahoo group. John M has posted some excellent information there and
the latest spreadsheet with the American Burmese and Lao Burmese
Adoption families is posted.

Great things are happening and God is really working.  Thank you for
serving him and living it out!

 Update Number 2 Minimize

ADOPT-A-FAMILY… The Mission Field is HERE!

Through the Lao Church, a team of people including Pastor I.I. (Inthava
Inthisane), John Brand, and Sheri Jennings are hoping to connect 19 families
from Burma who speak the Kaliang dialect to 19 American families who will
befriend them and help them become acclimated to American culture and ways,
as they love them with the love of Christ. They have been attending the Lao
services where the message is translated into Kaliang for them, and their
children have been coming to our Kidstreet even though they do not understand
our language and customs. Some of these Burmese people are Buddhists,
but are being drawn in by the unconditional love shown by the Lao congregation.

How can you help?

1. Become one of the 19 Primary Sponsor Families or

2. Become a Primary Single Adult team (6 of them are single adults)

3. Volunteer to become part of a sponsor network to provide for needs of
the families

You will be trained appropriately and given help with suggested activities.
There will be sessions in learning Kaliang where you will help them learn English.

Interested?

Contact John Brand at 431-0495, brandj@northstate.net or sign up in the foyer.

**The Kidstreet Ministry is also participating in this service project by bringing "Giving
Jars" full of loose change each week. YOU can be involved by counting money and
buying items that are needed for these children! If your child still needs a jar, please
contact Sheri Jennings on Sunday morning in the Kidstreet hall.

 Update Number 1 Minimize
Hi all,

Thank you for your interest in helping the Karen (Burmese) refugees. Many of you have already committed to adopting these wonderful families. We are so excited about how God has given us the unique opportunity to minister to these people through our Laotian church. With the holidays approaching so quickly and the exciting upcoming events at our church, we wanted to get an initial training session in as soon as possible.
We have decided to set up a training session this Sunday at 6:00 pm in Room 106. This session is for those of you who are adopting families as well as anyone else interested in helping or learning more about the project.
Some of the things we will be doing are:
* Learning how these people got here
* Hearing Pastor Inthava's heart for these people
* Learning some of the culture & basic Kaliang language (Learn some of their language)
* Discussing what types of foods these people like to eat
* Discussing practical methods of communication
* Learning how to look for your families needs
* Discussing the process for meeting with your adopted family
* Practical methods & games for teaching English * Questions & Answers with Klo Say (Karen Interpreter)

We have a full evening, however, we are going to try to get it done in 1 hour. Our goal is to give you some basic training, and teach you some skills so that you will feel comfortable in this new situation and be able to show these people how much God loves them. Please feel free to invite anyone that is interested in coming. Children are welcome as well.

Please RSVP to my Email address with the number of people that will be coming with your group.

Thank you so much for stepping up and "Living it Out"

John Brand
